Interesting Article...

As a wedding photographer, I try to read articles that relate to marriage and weddings to keep abreast of current trends and whatnot. Well, I recently read this article that blew my mind!! I have got to share it with you, my wedding clients. It's about women who get married and change their last name to their husband's name. According to a recent survey, "women who change their name at marriage make nearly $400,000 less over their lifetimes than women who do not". It further adds that these women are viewed as "older, less educated, and unmotivated" compared to their counterparts.

What?!? Can you believe that? Just because I take my husband's last name, I am now going to be viewed as an uneducated and lazy old woman? And, I am suddenly going to make almost half a million dollars less in my lifetime? Why would society place such pressures on women to marry and assume a "traditional" role if they are just going to look down their noses at the women that do? Neither the people that view women in that way nor the bosses that will pay less because of a woman that changes her last name upon marriage are the kind of people that I prefer to associate with. I'll just stick with my circle of family and friends that love me for me rather than what my last name is! Ugh...

Forgot to Mention...

Oops...I forgot to mention in my earlier post about my first Special starting this week. For all you moms out there that suffer live through the joys and pains of motherhood, our "Mommies in May" special is dedicated in your honor!  :)  From now until May 31st, any "Mommies in May" session booked will receive a FREE Memory Book and 10% off anything ordered. The Memory Book is spiral-bound and will hold up to twenty-five (25) 4x6 prints with either a black or white border. The session can be just mom (as a treat to herself) or it can be with her rugrats too. But the focus is on mom, in all her beauty! Please no maternity sessions since I will likely have a "new mom" special later. Space is limited, so book your session early!

Products and Prices

As I posted yesterday, I've been working on my products and price list. Guess what...I am finally done! Here are a few pics of some new products: calendars, gallery wraps, flatcards/announcements, gallery mats with prints, lay-flat albums, and spiral-bound memory books.

New, New, and More New

After weeks of testing the quality of prints/products and comparing prices at various photo labs, I have finally decided on a new professional lab!  :)  I am really excited about their products and rapid turn-around time. Next task...re-calibrate my monitor one more time for the best color accuracy. I am almost done revamping my product and price list. Stay tuned!!

Also, I am scouting out a few new locations to add to my recommendation list. The Myriad Botanical Gardens is closing this month for an entire year, so they're temporarily off the list. I'll be visiting a local winery/vineyard, the Paseo Art District, and a few other spots. Any recommendations for some indoor locations is appreciated.

New lab, new products, new prices, and new locations...I am sooo excited!!!

Need Your Input on Specials

I am considering offering specials throughout the year. I would like your input on the type of specials you would like to see. Basically, I've got three main ideas, but I am open to other alternatives.

  1. Seasonal Specials - these are offered with the seasons. They may last the entire season or just a portion thereof. Example may include "Spring Fling" Special that occurs during April. Focus of sessions would be the blooming that occurs during spring, and the fun associated with it. The special may be a 4x6 colored brag book with 20 photos included with session.
  2.  Monthly Specials - these would be offered all month with a different special occurring each month. Example may include "Mother's Day" Special in the month of May. Focus of sessions would be the joys of motherhood, whether it is mom spending quiet time alone or mom surrounded by her kids. The special may be an 8x10 canvas print of their favorite photo included with session.
  3. Consistently-Run Specials - these would run year-round and be available based on the occasion. Example may include anniversaries. Focus of the session  is pretty obvious - marriage. The special may be something like a 25% discount or a slideshow of images that can include wedding photos you provide.

Website Updates

I've been working on getting my website up and running. I think I am just about done, finally. I still have to add a portrait and seniors price list, but other than that, I think its ready!

Just for the sake of having some photos on this blog, I'll add a few from a senior photo session I recently did with Haley. Haley is a beautiful young lady who was full of energy and spirit.
